Rakahuri Rage
Last Sunday all of the year 8's did the Rakahuri Rage. It was a really hot day but we were in groups of 3 so we had a decent break between laps. My first lap was the most exciting one and the fasted by far.
All the other laps were pretty slow. At one stage Holly took my bike and started biking so when Riely came back I had to wait a minute then I was off. After the last lap I was dead and I didn't feel like moving so I didn't go to prize giving and went straight home to the bath!         The day was pretty cool and I had a blast!

Mt Richardson

Friday 13th I was eager to get going, I hopped onto the bus and drove to mt Richardson with a bus full of excited kids. When we got there we had a debrief and off we went for the rest of the way we didn’t do much but we had lots of stops here and there for others to catch up. The rest of the way up was pretty repetitive so I won’t go into detail but the feeling when we got to the top was great! The way down was similar to the way up so pretty boring but I enjoyed a nice bath afterwards.

Mt Oxford

It was a saturday morning warm, sunny and calm when Dad suggested that we climbed a mountain and I wanted to do mt Oxford so we got ready and left. It was two o'clock when we got there and we headed off. We did the direct route up on the way up near the top multiple times we got to what looked like a peak but really wasn't eventually we got to the top we had the last of the nuts and nearly all our water. On the way down because of my dad's knee we went down the long but not so steep down, my dad was using an out of date tramping map which showed a path which didn't exist anymore. So had passed the new track by miles so that was when we realised we were stuffed, with no food and little water we realised we couldn't walk 10 odd kms so we walked to the other car park and called mum, it was 7 something at the time. More than an hour later we got a call saying that she was at a FORD and she couldn't cross it but with the help of some others she did it. The FORD was at 500ft and we were much higher so we walked for 15m before it turned dark and we found Mum coming towards us, it was near ten at that time. Phew it was a long day.

High Ropes
On the 3/6/16 all the year eights went to the groynes to do high ropes. That morning we all met in the mt Thomas room. Then we got told our cats, I was in the bartletts car. When we got there I looked around and in one direction I saw some vertical poles about 3-4 telegraph poles highs and wood and ropes connecting them.

First off the horizons unlimited people put us into two groups. The first team building activity was one where our horizons unlimited leader put us into a circle and we chucked a ball around the group so that each person only got it once and then we did it except we could move and we had to chuck it around the same order and we were timed. Then we went to an activity where there were two tall poles with a rope connecting them with a rope down and a crate a few metres away. We had to get our whole team onto the crate but if one of us touched the ground we all had to go back, I think we did it on our third attempt. Then we had a morning tea break.

After that we started doing real climbing in our two groups. My group started with the ‘playground pen’. It started with a pole with U shaped hooks coming out of it. The pole was only attached at the top so it was really wobbly! Then there was a close climbing wall for about 2.5 meters. The transition between the pole and the climbing wall was really challenging. After that we had to climb a rope ladder to a big wooden outside of a square with a piece of wood from the top left corner to the opposite corner and one from the top right corner to the opposite corner. The whole square was a bit wobbly, then we had to go up a blue web that was really loose then onto a flying fox seat and you had done, I did get to top. Then I leaned back and the bilayers lowered me down. IT WAS AWESOME!

Next up was the GIANT'S LADDER. It was like two big ladders connected like this V. They were not connected at the bottom so it was a bit wobbly. For the activity we got into groups of three and AS A TEAM we had to get as high as possible. First of all Me, Hayato and Riely went up four bits of wood then Hayato dropped out then because we were doing as a team I was using Riely’s rope. If we had longer than 2 minutes I would not have used Riely’s rope and I would of gotten higher. Each rung got further and further apart.

Next I did ‘floating islands’. I won’t say too much so I’ll share a sum up they are a group of platforms high up connected by two ropes, first off I thought I would run across it but it was more wobbly than I thought and the pulley at the top kept on getting stuck.

Then we did the ‘flying kiwi’ pretty much there is a big rope connected to a pulley at the top and one person at a time got attached to the rope at one end and other end gets pulled by the class so you go up. It WAS AN AWESOME FEELING. Overall I loved the whole day.

Hawdon
at first i thought it was going to e as easy as climbing Mt gray but a wee while later we thought we were at a green dot on the map but we were only halfway there. we started by walking through a forest but soon after we reached the valley which we had just drove by. we soon had our first river crossing at a little stream. the water wasn't to cold but i realised it would be a good idea to get quite a bit of my legs under because it was a cloudless hot day but we ended up in groups of three or four. i went with piper and Ethan because they were in my food group so i didn't end up getting as much of my legs under as i wanted to much but i didn't try to keep my feet relatively dry! soon after we reached a fence which had a style and we had to jump over it. then we walked for a while reaching lots of streams. there was a big gap where there were no streams and most people drank their whole water bottle (including me) and we really really wanted water. after a lot of walking we reached a stream. everybody got so excited and filled up all their water bottles and i think everybody went under. after that everybody had new energy so we continued at our new pace. we found quite a few streams after that. after a while we went back into the forest and we found were the old hut was.(i wish the hut was still there!) a short while later we reached the hut it was such a good sight! after we got run down about the rules and other stuff by mr Priddy we set up our beds and did a few other things we went down to the river nearly everybody went under. on the way back me and derren were a little bit behind. i found path and started to walk up it with Derrin in tow. i was looking at the ground kinda in front of me and the only person i could see was Derrin. after a while we reached a rushing river. on the way down we didn't see it so Derrin left me to stand there and went to find a path and see found it but didn't tell me or i didn't hear it. so we headed back the way we came. i thought that we were heading back to the river but i spotted the path (which Derrin had already found) and we headed up. I went up to the hut (Derrin didn't) and i said i'm here and the adults didn't know we were gone. later that day we went boulder hopping. i had a good time jumping from boulder to boulder. on the back we stopped and had a talk from Mr Priddy about getting lost. when we arrived at the hut we kinda chilled. then we had dinner. we had mashed potatoes, lamb, and chicken. i had a terrible sleep! in the morning after breakfast and a wee while set off. it was kinda the same as the way there but in reverse. after what seemed like an age we saw cars in the distance and soon after that we reached the fence. nec minute we were in the minivans and ready to go! soon we stopped in a town and had ice-cream. i didn't have ice-cream because i'm sugar free but i did have chips. soon we were on our way.

Fun Run

On the 4th of the 9th I woke up early eager to go for the run so I got ready and we drove through some back roads and reached our destination. We were quite early. Later I saw EB, Hugh, Piper and Rihanna. We’ll skip the next part (it was boring). I was at the start line eager to go, I was nervous and excited. Ding, ding, ding the bells rung out everyone started to race. It took a wee while before I had passed EB, Hugh and Piper, Mr Priddy was nowhere to be seen. After ages of running up and up It flattened out And there it was, I’d been waiting for it for a while, the WATER STATION! Gratefully I drunk up the water and continued, jogging of course. (before I started I made it my plan to jog the whole way.) Not long after the person said 2.7k’s left (it was a 11k run) I stopped jogging and started a jog then walk then jog etc. Soon Mr. Priddy caught up with me we run for a bit before he had a stitch. When his stitch went away he continued to run but didn’t quite catch up to me as I run over the Finish Line. I was so happy and exhausted.

Cave Stream

We stopped at Cave Stream on the way back from Hawdon hut. The way down to the entrance of the cave. It was very steep and gravelly. We went in food groups  and my food group was second or third. The first bit of the cave is by far the deepest part as it is quite skinny also it went up to my armpits. The rest of it went from my belly button to my ankles. The next part is repetitive so I will not go into detail but I had fun. The last bit was much more interesting. We had to fight against the water to go up about fifty centimeters from the top of the water to a little pool of water, rather like a cold spa. The water came down from the far side. In another spot there were rungs and a chain bolted at the top to hold onto. There wasn't much room crawling up there but there was only a bit of crawling till I reached the open.
